Swimming is not only fun but offers many physical therapy benefits to aging dogs and dogs that suffer from joint pain, arthritis, muscle, soft tissue pain and obesity.  Hydrostatic pressure from the pool has been known to reduce pain and inflammation. It helps to build and maintain muscle mass, increase range of motion, improve circulation, relieve pain, stiffness and swelling, weight loss and provides mental stimulation. And of course, it is fun!

Pooch Pool School is available by appointment.  Book in 30 min, 60 min sessions or half day rental.

The Nanaimo Dog Pool will host several weekend NADD sanctioned competitions! Stay tuned for event dates for 2021!

Diving dogs is a canine sport in which dogs are enticed to run the length of a dock and leap as far out into the water as possible to compete for height or distance. They’re motivated to fly with a prized toy, which is thrown just out of reach in order to help them keep their momentum and get the best launch angle possi-ble.

Dock Diving is one of the fastest growing sports for your dog. North America Diving Dogs is an organi-zation that has enhanced the sport by working with dock diving facilities & competitors across North America.

North America Diving Dogs titles are recognized by the Canadian & American Kennel Club.  Your dog DOES NOT have to be an CKC/AKC registered dog to participate in a North America Diving Dogs trial.

about twyla

Twyla has close to 20 years of experience in working aquatics as a lifeguard and swimming instructor, with certifications in NL, WSI, WSIT, CPR, OFA 1, and Pool operations. She is very much at ‘home’ in around pools.  Teaching swimmers of all types has allowed her to use multiple forms of exercises and creative techniques to suit the skill and comfort level of swimmers, all with the same goal, to build confidence and comfort in the water making swimming a safe, fun and an enjoyable activity.

She started working for Pooch Pack Adventures in January 2021 adding her Dog Safe First Aid certification.  Leading dog groups out on off leash hiking adventures has taught her further knowledge of dog’s mannerisms, body language, personality traits and how to manage unwanted behaviours to safely guide a team of dogs through the wilderness for fun and exercise.  Twyla has also done agility training in the past with her own Siberian Husky and Jack Russell.  She utilizes all her experience and continues to learn and apply skills working with Pooch Pool School.
